Question by : Trouble starting my motorcycle?
Here is my story, any help would be much appreciated. So I bought a new bike, a 2008 Triumph Daytona 675. I had it about 10 days before I left the country for 6 weeks, during which time I had my dad start it up for me at least once a week but it was not ridden during this time. I got back, and everything seemed fine. I went to lunch with some friends, and after I could not get my bike to start. It sounded like the battery was just dead. What I thought might have happened was that the stem-lock features on these bikes have an additional key position, that not only locks the stem but also leaves the light on. I am not sure if this is what happened, but certainly a possibility I suppose. So then I push started it and got it running, only to have it die less than a mile. At this point I dropped it off at a nearby friends house and left it on the trickle charger for a couple hours. It then started up no problem and I rode it open. I turned the bike off to open the garage, and it did not have enough juice to restart to pull in to the garage. Again I left the bike on the charger for 8 hours and it rode fine. I took a trip with a couple stops around town, powering off the engine and it still started, but by the time I got home it sounded weak again. For me it sounded like a battery issue…weeks of not getting ridden, and I am not sure how new this battery was when I got the bike either. I took it to an auto parts store that told me the battery was running fine at 12.75v. I am not sure if this is because the battery had been on the charger, and although I had ridden the bike once with it since charging it, it might have had some juice left or something. So the shop tells me my battery is fine, which I guess brings me to my ultimate question: what could be causing this issue? I thought about the stator and a couple other things, but my problem always seems to resolve itself after the battery sits on the charger for a bit. Thank you all for any help or opinions. Happy riding, and happy New Year.

Your battery is poop.
Sorry time for a new one. Make sure you fully charge the new one for the time and amperage labeled on the battery.
