Question by Will Smith: my aprilia rx 50′s exhaust is clogged i think , and i dont know any simple methods for cleaning out the carbon?
ive been doing a little research as my aprilia is seeming to be dying. it starts first time, and runs well in neutral, but when i go to accelarate in any gear, the engine just bogs down and dies, it has just had a new piston and bottom end, but there is alot of black soot everywhere and i think it needs a clean, but obviously im not an expert, so does anyone have a fairly decent cleaning method for my bikes exhaust?
thnks for the help

The only method I know of is to cook the pipe with a torch, this will turn all the wet oily soot into dried carbon, then you can tap it and all the soot will fall out, might be best left to a bike shop, but if you have a baffle on the pipe start by cleaning it first.

best thing in all fairness if you dont use too much is spray a load of carb cleaner down there and leave it overnight with a bag on the end of the pipe with an elastic band,
the stuff to use in the old days was GUNK and its still sold in halfords if i remember correctly, its actually an engine degreaser but my dad used to use it alot when he raced his 2 Strokes back in the 70-80′s.
the old school way was using Bicarbonate soda i think, but please double check the last one as i dont wanna ruin your pipe.

You can test whether a clogged exhaust is causing the engine to die. Simply remove the exhaust pipe completely and take it for a VERY SHORT ride. You can tell immediately if it’s running better.
