Q&A: Is a Motard safer than a sport bike?
Question by A person: Is a Motard safer than a sport bike?
So I like sport bikes like the Ninja, etc., but my dad says they are to dangerous and I can’t get one. My question is, is a motard, like the Aprilia Shiver 750 or Ducati 1000 safer? Thanks
(This is the Aprilia):

All a super motard is, is a dirt bike with street tires. They aren’t as fast but still dangerous like any bike is. I have a bike and love riding and they all can be dangerous just like driving a car can be dangerous. Oh i have an 07 Aprilia Tuono R btw. Just tell your dad to calm down and get the bike you want you will not be happy unless you get the one you want.

Neither is safer.
I am a safer driver. I will be safe no matter what vehicle I am driving/riding.
If you are not watching all of the vehicles all around you, 200 feet behind, 50 feet to the sides and a half mile forward… if you are not watching the other drivers and know what they will be doing… you will have a collision — does not matter what you are driving/riding.
Vehicles are NOT dangerous. People are dangerous.

Since you are so young that you need parental permission than the only logical choices would be to run away from home or to take a motorcycle safety course.
If you do the first choice you will not achieve your objective for numerous years.
If you choice the second than it proves that you are maturing and since learning something new and exciting is a Challenge than I Challenge you to take the safety course.
Remember, please that I’m over 60 years old and have only been on motorcycles for 55 of those 60+ years, so here are the rules of the Challenge…. WITHOUT the safety course : 1- I’ll give you a 10 mile start on a 25 mile race. 2- If you LIVE to see the end of that race I’ll buy you that Ducati 1000. 3- If you win that race, I’ll buy the fuel for that Ducati 1000 for as long as you live.
Rules change WITH the safety course….

No. Its the rider who makes things dangerous not the bikes. The bike will go as fast as the rider wants. An idiot going down the freeway at 130 miles an hour riding recklessy on a Motard is as dangerous as an idiot going 130 MPH on a 999r. Just be careful and you should be fine. Good luck man!

Statistically, the 3 safest style of bikes are cruiser, Standard, Dual Sport. The 2 most Dangerous are sportbike and supersport. A lot of that has to do with a particular type of rider that each style attracts. The most dangerous race minded riders will gravetate towards the higher horsepower bike. The 250 ninja is considered an entry level sportbike. And is a safer choice than the aprilia 750 or Ducati 1000. To start riding you should be looking at a 250cc bike. There are many to chose from . Consequently, the safest vehicle on the road is a 49cc scooter. They have less accidents per mile than cars. And even have less fatalities than farm tracktors. Riders that gravetate towards a 49cc scooter are not looking to be cool. They aren’t getting it to do wheelies or stoppies. Most of them are not even looking for fun. They are just looking for the most economical way to get from point a to point b. That type of rider is far less likely to have an accident. What type of rider are you.
